Accident & Emergency Policy

The safety of your child is paramount and I will take every measure I can to protect your child from hurting itself. However sometimes accidents and incidents do happen.
I will comfort the child and reassure them.
I will assess the extent of their injuries and if necessary call for medical support/ambulance.
I will carry out any first aid procedures that are necessary and that I have been trained to do.
Once the child is more settled I will contact you as soon as possible to inform you of the accident and if necessary to ask you to return to care for your child or meet myself at the hospital*
Follow HSE – RIDDOR’s guidelines – (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations – R.I.D.D.O.R) 1995
*If situation requires me to go to hospital and I am working alone, I will get in touch with other parents of children I am minding to assume care of their child/ren early whilst I am attending the emergency situation. If all else fails I will take the other children with me, keeping all parents up to date of my whereabouts and the situation.
After every accident or incident, however minor we will:
Complete an accident/incident report form.
Ask you to review & sign the report.
If the incident requires any medical treatment then we will:
Under Standard 14.3 Children Act regulation, inform Ofsted about any significant events) and Statutory framework for the early years foundation stage 3.51within 14 days.
